Moisture Retention - thus reducing watering time/frequency
Mulch can be applied throughout the year, but is best applied in the spring (before weeds have a chance to germinate and herbaceous plants are dormant) or in the autumn (to protect plant roots during the harsher winter weather).
For weed suppression, lay to a minimum depth of 7.5 cm (3"), for best results. The thicker the layer of mulch, the more sunlight is blocked out, thus preventing weeds germinating/growing. Also, moisture evaporation will be reduced, meaning less watering is required.
Lay mulch over moist, weed free, soil.
When mulching single trees and specimen shrubs, lay only to the radius of the canopy in order to avoid excess moisture retention softening the stems. Low lying, ground covering plants will also benefit from a thinner layer.
Adding organic matter in the form of mulch to clay based soils will help to break down the clay. Adding to sandy soil will increase the nutritional value in the soil, increasing the loam.
We deliver large or small loads to all areas - no minimum load size.
How Much Mulch Do I Need?
Our garden mulch is supplied loose, by the cubic metre.
The quantity required very much depends of what you are using the garden mulch for, but as a guide one cubic metre will cover an area of 10 square meters to a depth of 10 cm (4").
